Donald's fight by SPartanen Donald's fight by SPartanen
My first project on my new wacom and work station...
Did it during a local gaming convention, Nordsken.

Someone said they liked my Uncle scrooge painting and my style where I did these comic characters and made them 'realistic~ish'
So my first ide was to create a fight scene with donald duck. He's quite a fighter, but I've never seen how he looks like after a real fight. so here you go!

Steps: uncle scrooge:

First of all, I have to say I'm not that in of making realistic a cartoon character. I like when you give a different style to an animated character: from cartoon to anime, from Tratakovsky's style to Clasky Csupo style, from the simplest to the most complex, from just soild colors to shades and gradients, etc. But, I always consider this kind of design tranformation, not the worst, but the most tricky, because it's easier to lost all the scense from the orignal character, and end with a really hard to watch design.

But, for what I see here, I see a really wonderful work.

First of all, one of the first achievments this work accomplishes is making recognizable to Donald. he has a different style, but the head and the trademark clothing still on makes atomatically people say: "Hey look, it's Donald Duck, the Disney character, but with a different style". And talknig about the head, most about the face, it has a really clever design: it got the most important features, and not only the beak, but also the shape of the eyes, and how the feather are put.

However, I think we have to address the elephant in the rom here: does the dark tone given works?

I have to say, making darker and edgier characters in fanarts is a popular method: all those innocent cartoon characters living in a world of not so big problems dealing with the worst things we couls see in more mature shows like plenty of anime series or cartoons like South Park. But, we have to consider this won't always work: dark tones aren't always enjoyable, and it can become pretty ackward easily. But this shows that it know what is it doing.

All the work decided to work along with the dark tone, as in the character as in the background. The design choses, with the hard shadows, the color shades, the angle of the ilumination, and even how the background is made with the brushes. it all creates a really valid identity of this work, amink not only confortable to watch, but also funny and intersting.

The best part of this would be how serious this work ended up being. It doesn't look like a parody or an idea that came from a really absurd basis. It really tells an interesting fact, a serious problem, with a serious history.

In simplre work: a good and credible work of making dark an innocent idea! Congratulations!

I have always been frustrated about the fact that Disney tends to run over Donald without too much care. He's always put through things that if Cartoon Logic hadn't worked its magic, he'd probably be dead a thousand times over. I get that it's funny and kids love Donald because of it, but sometimes you can't help but feel sorry for the duck when he gets run over by a car for the zillionth time.

Anyway, what has the above paragraph to do with this artwork, you ask? I just feel that it gives a more realistic feeling to what Donald probably goes through everyday (with Disney's reluctance to show blood and all). It really enhances the fact that even though he has to put up with all the bad luck and impossible situations, he's never once given up, and has always stood his ground and fought. His determination is unparalleled, and you can see all that of his character in this artwork. You are a wonderful artist, and I thank you for creating this piece that had let me take the time to really appreciate Donald for what he is.

Well now, this has gotten pretty long and heavy. Let me just wrap this up with a few simple sentences: I love your depiction of Donald and your style so much. Donald has always been my favorite character, and you just went and set the bar even higher for all the competing characters. Make more artworks like this, please? OwO
