the torture

I've read/heard about some kind of torture/death penalty where a skilled surgeon/torturer took knives out of a barrel randomly with a note attached to it. On this note an organ was written. The surgeon then had to take out that organ from the living victim, who were still awake. Then take another knife and remove that organ and so on until the barrel was empty. The surgeon had to be very skilled so he could keep the victim alive as long as possible. The victim was screaming and begging that the next knife would be the heart......

Ok, I'm not sure if this was a real method, but sounds pretty awesome, and disturbing. This is the story behind this painting. Even thou I'm not happy with it, I still like how 'gory' it came out...
